NatureServe, a nonprofit conservation science and technology organization, provides the scientific basis for effective conservation action. With nearly 100 staff and an international network of over 80 natural heritage programs across the United States, Canada, and Latin America, we are the leading source of information on rare and endangered species and threatened ecosystems. We provide information and tools to conservation groups, government agencies, corporations, academia, and the public to help them make informed decisions about managing our natural resources. NatureServe holds a unique niche, by providing scientifically sound guidance for major conservation investments across the hemisphere.

DESCRIPTION:

This position is a great opportunity to gain experience in science communications, graphic design, and public relations. Working in the Marketing and Communications Department, the Communications Intern's role will focus on supporting NatureServe's engagement with the NatureServe Network and target audiences. Under the supervision of the Marketing and Communications Associate, the intern will perform research on related biodiversity conservation news and events, support in the creation of social media content, contribute to weekly science communications newsletters, and support the Marketing and Communications Department in related projects. The internship will involve 3-4 days a week and is UNPAID. Internship for college credit: In college studying related subjects (Communications, Marketing, Advertising)

DUTIES:

  • Attend meetings with his/her supervisor(s) and relevant to area of learning
  • Assist in the development and creation of NatureServe's Annual Report and weekly newsletters
  • Support the research and publishing of content for NatureServe social media platforms
  • Support internal staff with communications collateral for related events
  • Support the development of graphic design and multimedia products
  • Assist in the organization and preparation for special events
  • Engage in regular social media outreach
  • Undertake research for speeches and presentations;

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graphic design and multimedia experience (Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro)
  • Proficiency in using a PC and Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Social Media content creation skills
  • Be organized, punctual, creative, adaptable, and a quick thinker with a genuine willingness to learn daily

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to sit/stand at a computer for several hours per day
  • Able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. without supervision
